Jaden Smith to Open a Free Vegan Restaurant for the Homeless

When Jaden Smith turned 21 a couple of years ago, he decided to celebrate with the launch of his I Love You vegan food truck. It provides free, healthy, and sustainable meals to the homeless in Los Angeles’ Skid Row area.

Two years later, Smith is turning that food truck into a restaurant, one that will continue to give free meals and offer the same healthy, vegan options.

“It’s for homeless people to get free food,” Smith said in a statement, via Variety. He says you don’t have to be homeless to eat at I Love You, but if you’re not, “not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you.”

The location of his new restaurant and the opening date hasn’t been released yet, but he’s told his supporters to “keep a lookout.”

Aside from the I Love You food truck, Smith and his father own the Just Water company, addressing the contamination of the water system in Flint, Michigan. Smith also has his own clean water initiative, 501CTHREE.org – a Water Box project providing access to clean water to communities in need.

Smith hopes that his initiative to feed disadvantaged communities will “give people what they deserve: healthy vegan food for free.” His food truck is working to close the gap by feeding thousands of people in Los Angeles, as well as in Harlem, New York.
